2007-'11 Land Rover Range Rover Recalled for Defective Takata Airbags

Jaguar Land Rover North America is recalling 35,716 2007-'11 Land Rover Range Rover SUVs for defective Takata front-passenger airbag inflators, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

"In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the front airbags, these inflators may rupture due to to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to absolute humidity and temperature cycling," NHTSA said in its recall summary. "An inflator rupture may result in metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants, resulting in serious injury or death."

There are no reported injuries linked to this recall expansion, Jaguar Land Rover told federal safety regulators.

The company said it is not aware of any "field incidents" with the subject Takata inflators.

Land Rover dealers will replace the front-passenger airbag assemblies. Parts are not currently available.

Owners will be sent an interim recall notification on July 31. A second notice will follow when parts are available.
